General preferences

Under Application Launch you can select the SlipBox document that is opened when you start the application:

  1. "Open nothing" just launches the application but does not open any documents,
  2. "Empty slip-box " creates a new, empty document,
  3. "Open dialogue" displays the "File/Open…" dialogue to choose a document,
  4. "Last document" opens the last document (the topmost document in the "File/Open Recent" menu),
  5. "Default document" lets you specify a document. This enhances usability especially if you use only one SlipBox document for all your slips.

If Check for updates automatically is active, SlipBox tries to connect to it's homepage on application launch to see whether a new version is available.

Keep backup file, Auto-save every X min and Save window position on exit have the usual functionality.

Display a random slip when opening a slip-box will let SlipBox display a randomly chosen slip from the slip-box to be to be opened. Otherwise, the slip with the highest slip ID in the box will be shown.

Add keywords to search field allows to determine whether a keyword that is double-clicked in the Keywords Drawer is added to the current search in the Search View or whether the existing search is replaced by the new keyword.

Fonts & Colour preferences

Two fonts can be specified:

  1. The default font for the main text of new slips,
  2. The font in which the entries of the fields "Keywords", "Source", and "Type" are displayed.

The Highlight Colour is the colour that is used by the Highlight Text function, which is available in the Format menu.

Spotlight preferences

The preference items in this view determine whether the index files that are searched by Spotlight are generated and if so how frequently. By clicking the button, all index files in the cache (that is searched by Spotlight) are deleted. This is useful, for example, if Spotlight shows hits for slip-boxes that do not exist any more.

Plug-in preferences

The plug-in preferences show the plug-ins that are available

  1. Locally on your computer,
  2. For download on the SlipBox server.
Plug-ins extend SlipBox's core functionality, in particular by providing interfaces to other applications.

These additional functions can be accessed via the "Plug-ins" menu.

By clicking the button in the left column a plug-in is activated. If it is not yet available locally, it will be downloaded from the SlipBox server. Clicking on the "i" icon rightmost column displays a plug-in's documentation (if the plug-in is available locally and provides a documentation). The text field at the bottom gives a short description of a plug-in, that is available regardless of whether the plug-in is installed locally. Clicking the "Update" lets SlipBox connect to the server to check for new versions as well as for new plug-ins.
