This is OS 10.6.4 and SB Version 0.9.6 (271)

Strange. I assume you don't tick the option to check for updates? Have you tried to delete the preference file? (See the FAQ on the app homepage.)

I have it checked. After deleting the preferences file and starting SB it did not ask. When I set my preferences and restarted it asked again, though, I had the auto-update check set to on.
